Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields shined in his debut with the Buckeyes on Saturday afternoon.
While leading Ohio State to a 45–21 victory over Florida Atlantic, Fields finished with five touchdowns, the most in a player's first Buckeyes game in history. He opened with a 51-yard touchdown run, which marks the longest rush of his career.
Fields later added three touchdowns in the air in the first quarter, including connecting with Binjimen Victor on a 32-yard pass to give the Buckeyes a 21–0 lead with 9:12 left. He entered halftime with four touchdowns, as Ohio State was up 28–3.
In the third quarter, Fields connected with Jeremy Ruckert on a three-yard pass to take a 35–6 lead.
Fields finished his debut going 18-for-25 with 234 passing yards, 61 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The sophomore transferred to Ohio State this winter from Georgia and won a waiver for immediate eligibility. He came to the Bulldogs as the No. 2 overall recruit in the class of 2018 behind Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, Fields sat behind sophomore Jake Fromm in 2018 before deciding to enter the NCAA’s transfer portal.
