Rising country singer Kylie Rae Harris is dead at age 30 after a three-car crash in New Mexico.
Billboard reports the Texas-based musician died Wednesday night in a crash on State Road 522 near Taos, N.M. Another driver, a 16-year-old girl, was also killed; the third driver was uninjured.
According to the Dallas Morning News, authorities believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but have not elaborated. An investigation is ongoing.
Harris was on her way to perform at a music festival in Taos when she made her final post on Twitter, suggesting she was low on gas.
“Fuel range is 46 miles and I’m 36 from the nearest gas station. Dear baby Jesus please don’t let me get stranded in NM,” she tweeted.
Harris had released two albums and a recent EP, released in March, featured the song “Twenty Years from Now,” dedicated to her 6-year-old daughter Corbie. She also had her own clothing line named after Corbie.
She told Billboard in March that she wrote the song after her father died of cancer at age 54.
“It scared me thinking that it was totally possible I could be gone before my daughter reaches that point,” Harris said. “I want to meet my kid’s kids.”
According to People, Harris was originally from Wylie, Texas, and had performed throughout the area for years. She wrote her first song at age 14, released her first EP in 2013, and won female vocalist of the year at the 2014 Texas Regional Radio Music Awards.
Maren Morris, who grew up just an hour away in Arlington, mourned Harris’ death on social media.
“Damn. I just heard the news and I’m in shock,” the country star wrote. “@kylierh, you have always been so sweet and supportive of me. Your soulful voice and Texas beauty was always jaw-dropping, even when we were teenagers at the Larry Joe Taylor festival. Thinking of your family and your precious baby girl right now. Rest In Peace.”
Page Six reports a GoFundMe campaign has been created to help pay for Harris’ funeral and college funds for her daughter.
“We are heartbroken to confirm that Kylie Rae Harris passed away in a car accident last night,” Harris’ publicist told Billboard. “We have no further details to share, and ask for privacy for her family at this time. Everyone that knew Kylie knew how much she loved her family and, beyond that, how much she loved music. The best tribute to her unmatched enthusiasm for both is to spread as much love as you can today, and listen to music that fully inspires you.”
