CHARLES Bronson's tragic ex Paula Williamson struck up an unlikely friendship with his first wife after bonding over the notorious lag.
The former Corrie actress was found dead aged 38 of a suspected drug overdose yesterday - just hours after it was revealed Bronson wants to wed again.
Paula became pals with Irene Dunmore after marrying the prisoner in November 2017 at HMP Wakefield.
She described her as "my friend, she's my sister" while speaking on Loose Women in April last year.
Paula said: "I watched Irene on a TV show and I was fascinated with her. I wanted to know all about her - what she was like, whether I'd like her or not.
"I watched her ITV show, thought she was fabulous, so I contacted her on Facebook and we arranged to meet up and we got on like a house on fire."
The women told the ITV show they bonded over their shared belief that "charming and funny" Bronson is misunderstood.
'WE WALKED HOLDING HANDS'
Irene said: "We were going to meet up for a meal and go for a few drinks and as soon as we met we were hugging each other.
"We walked holding hands, I don't go around holding hands. The connection, it was so weird honestly."
Paula's lifeless body was discovered “on top of a bed of cocaine and tablets” by her new lover yesterday morning, it is claimed.
He called emergency services but former Corrie actress Paula, 38, could not be saved. Medics pronounced her dead at 7am.
PAULA TRAGEDY
Cops said they weren’t treating the death as suspicious. Sources told The Sun it was “drug related” and revealed Paula had been thrown out of a nightclub while “off her face” on Saturday night.
The following day Bronson, 66, announced he wanted to marry a pensioner called “Joan” when he is freed. He said: “There’s not a 33-year-old bird out there who’s fit to clean her shoes.”
It came weeks after the marriage to Bronson was set to be annulled. The process usually takes two weeks but it wasn't clear if it had gone through before her tragic death.
Paula and Britain's most notorious prisoner Bronson tied the knot behind bars in 2017 after she visited him on numerous occasions.
Their relationship started as penpals but soon turned romantic with the lag serenading Paula down the phone with a rendition of Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' on Valentine's Day 2017.
MARRIED TO A MONSTER
They got hitched nine months later at Wakefield prison with Bronson handcuffed to a warder for the two-hour ceremony, which was witnessed by five people.
She was pictured being bundled into the jail under a purple cloak following a bizarre procession through the town led by a Bronson lookalike and a woman on a mobility scooter.
After the small ceremony, Bronson was led back to his cell while his bride and family and friends partied in a nearby hotel.
Among the bizarre list of guests were former gangland figure Dave Courtney, retired prison guard Mick O'Hagan and MMA fighter and Katie Price's ex Alex Reid.
Paula then headed to Malta for their honeymoon without her new husband.
But he filed for divorce 16 months later after snaps of her emerged letting a lad bury his head in her boobs on a holiday in Tenerife.
Bronson, 66, branded her a "drunken tart" in a letter from his cell and said the lad in the picture, Connor Boyes, 24, was a "brave man".
Paula later broke down in tears on Loose Women as she described how she was "heartbroken" by the marriage ending.
